Introduction to the Book of 1st Samuel - Self-Centered or God-Centered
Like Moses, the prophet Samuel pleaded with Israel in this book…honor and worship the Lord and obey Him with all their hearts. Like Moses, he reminded the people that God called them His very own. However, if they did not respect the privilege of that relationship, they would be swept away.
The stories in this book vividly portray the consequences of the choice Samuel laid out. Eli’s sons chose to please themselves while Samuel listened to God. Saul’s life focused on himself while David’s focused on God. Torment followed the self-centered men, but blessing followed the God-centered men. May we learn from their experiences!
