“Then Hezekiah encouraged the people by saying: ‘Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side! He may have a great army, but they are merely men. We have the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles for us!’”
2 Chronicles 32:7-8 NLT
Not long after King Hezekiah had re-established worship in the Temple, the king of Assyria invaded Judah and threatened to attack Jerusalem. However, Hezekiah encouraged his people with great confidence because he KNEW the power of the God he trusted!
When you face situations out of your control, what do you do? When it seems the forces around you are bigger and stronger than you are, how do you feel? I remember standing on my balcony one day in Nairobi, Kenya. Ron and I had recently moved onto that street and were delighted to get acquainted with our new neighbors, all of whom were from different religions. As I stood there surveying each house, I asked God, “How can I share Your Love with these people? I’ve never studied their religions; I don’t know what powers they believe in.” God's answer was immediate, “You don’t need to know their powers. You just need to know Mine!”
Those two sentences changed my life! Why should I ever feel intimidated or why should I ever fear threats against me? There’s no need to analyze or understand the powers of this world! If I truly KNOW the God of this temple, I will KNOW His power. THEN my heart will be at rest, and I will hold my head high…
“For there is a power far greater”—and that Power lives in me!
