“Because you have put your trust in the king of Aram instead of in the LORD your God you missed your chance to destroy the army of the king of Aram…The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him... What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.”

For thirty-five years, King Asa had put his trust in God and proved that trust by his actions. During those years, the only army who dared attack him was totally destroyed because Asa trusted in HIS God.
However, when the king of Israel invaded Judah, instead of trusting God as before, Asa asked an earthly king for help! Even more shocking, Asa used treasures of silver and gold from the Temple to pay for that help—treasures he and his father had dedicated to the LORD. (15:18) So, instead of trusting the God who owned those treasures, Asa used GOD’s treasures to buy someone else’s help.
I too have dedicated treasures to God—my body, mind, and heart. But, when I spend my body’s energy to fix my own problems, or use my mind’s ability to search for the internet’s latest answers, am I behaving like Asa? Am I using what belongs to God to buy help from earthly sources?
As the prophet reminded Asa, God searches for people who trust HIM—so HE can strengthen them. Sadly, when Asa tried to buy man’s help instead of trusting God's, he missed his chance to have Almighty strength. What a foolish mistake!
