“…Saul son of Kish was chosen…But when they looked for him, he had disappeared!
So they asked the Lord, ‘Where is he?’ And the Lord replied, ‘He is hiding among the baggage.’ So they found him and brought him out, and he stood head and shoulders above anyone else.”
1 Samuel 10:21-23
Earlier, God had given Saul a new heart and God’s Spirit was powerfully on him. But when Samuel tried to present him to Israel as their king, Saul was hiding among the baggage!
God also changes our hearts and gives us power to live free, but fear can keep us hiding among baggage. When we’re called to serve, we run to the baggage of condemnation with Saul’s “But I’m only…” excuse. (9:21) Or we hide among the baggage of lies like, “I can never change.”
However, God never intended for those He loves to live among baggage! In fact, Jesus told us who are weighed down to come to Him and exchange our baggage for His yoke! In other words, stop hiding and start walking--WITH Jesus, and live HIS Truth instead of lies!
GOD knew where Saul was hiding, and GOD knew who Saul was to be. The problem was, SAUL did not know who he was--not until he stepped out from the baggage! Then he no longer had reason to believe those lies of I’m only, I’m the smallest, I’m least important, because when Saul stepped out, “he stood head and shoulders above anyone else.”
GOD also knows in which baggage pile I am hiding…
and HE will help me step out and stand tall in who HE designed me to be!
