“Holy Eyesight”

“‘Oh, sir, what will we do now?’ the young man cried to Elisha. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ Elisha told him. ‘For there are more on our side than on theirs!’ Then Elisha prayed, ‘O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!’ The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.”

2 Kings 6:16-17 NLT

Elisha’s servant panicked at the scene he saw that morning, but Elisha’s heart was at rest. The difference in their responses lay in what each man saw. The servant saw a mass of enemy troops, horses, and chariots surrounding the city, but Elisha saw GOD’s army surrounding the enemy. The servant could not see the truth until the LORD opened his eyes.

According to the God’s Word, the LORD still surrounds His children. In fact, even if we’re in a desert wasteland, He will surround us and watch over us just like He did the Children of Israel. (Deut. 32:10) Our LORD encamps around us like a guard. (Ps. 34:10) And HIS protection is powerful— “Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people.” (Ps. 125:2)

So, when I open my eyes each morning, I can choose what to look at. I can either see the size of the enemy and panic or I can see the size of my Guard and be at peace. I can either say, “Oh Lord, what shall we do?” or I can say, “Oh Lord, open my eyes to see Your Truth.” (Ps. 119:18) The LORD encamps around me, HE guards me, and HE surrounds me with songs of victory! (Ps. 32:7)

When I see my LORD, I too will sing!
