“Take a sacred offering for the Lord. Let those with generous hearts present the following
gifts to the Lord…The leaders brought onyx stones, and the special gemstones
to be set in the ephod and the priest’s chestpiece.”
Exodus 35:5, 27
From all the items needed to build the Tabernacle, gold, silver, and bronze topped the list, with expensive linens and fine leather following close behind. So, let’s suppose a person decided to bring one of the stones as an offering, but on their way, they observe others carrying large, heavy items to give the Lord. I wonder what that person carrying the little stone may have felt?
“Why didn’t that Egyptian give me some of his gold or silver? What good is this tiny thing in such an enormous Tabernacle? It’s only one stone!” But God had a special plan for that little gem. Securely fastened to the chestpiece, carried close to the priest’s heart, this stone was going to represent one of the twelve tribes of Israel. God would constantly be reminded of His people by the sparkle from that one little stone.
It’s not the size of the gift that matters to God, it’s the heart of the giver! Those with willing and generous hearts were asked to bring gifts to build GOD’s holy dwelling place. You may feel like your one small talent is useless. But whatever you give from a willing heart is sacred to God, and you can be sure, He always has a special place in HIS house for one more stone!
