If a little yeast can change 150 cups of flour, what about a small family of Jesus followers in a big world? Yeast has a power that causes flour to “change in nature,” to “become something new!” And, that change happens because the yeast permeates every part of the dough.
Permeate, to spread throughout—what a verb of impact. As we spread the aroma of GOD’s Presence throughout our neighborhoods, the nature of people around us begins to change. As we permeate HIS words, HIS actions, HIS love everywhere we go, one by one, our world becomes something new!
On the other hand, consider the plight of bread’s ingredients if left in a bowl without yeast: eventually they rot! They become bread only if permeated by yeast! However, yeast sealed up in its little package is useless. Change occurs when yeast MIXES with those dormant ingredients!
Complaining about the smell of rottenness in our world today will change nothing. Besides, what if the world is rotting because the yeast God expected to permeate His world has remained sealed up in neat little packages?
Jesus didn’t change my life so I can live in a comfortable cocoon! He expects me to get OUT and stir His life-changing yeast into the dormant lives around me.
So, which will I be—useless packaged yeast or powerful permeating yeast?
