“A Seat for You”

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Psalm 23:1, 5 NIV

In the ancient Middle East, it was customary for a king to invite a servant king to eat at his table, anoint him with oil as the special guest, and seal a covenant of protection over him. David’s psalm is a beautiful picture of such a relationship, and WE are the special guests!

During the most desolate time of my life, the King of all kings invited me to eat at HIS table and anointed me as HIS special guest. Never had I tasted such a spread as I digested new covenant truths day after day. The longer I sat in the presence of my King, the more I trusted His Truth, and His oil healed the boils I’d been scraping for years.

The Israelites doubted such a covenant saying, “Can God spread a table in the desert?” (Ps. 78:14) My answer is a resounding, “YES!” In fact, the table God spread in the middle of my desert changed the course of my life.

So, no matter how dry your desert seems, never doubt God’s covenant. He promised to supply ALL your needs, to lead you in paths of righteousness, to protect and comfort you. And your Shepherd will keep pursuing you with goodness and unfailing love—because you are HIS special guest!

God has saved a seat for YOU at His covenant table!
