“Attracted to Riches”

“When the queen of Sheba realized how wise Solomon was, and when she saw the palace he had built, she was overwhelmed. She was amazed at the food on his tables, the organization of his officials and their splendid clothing…and the burnt offerings Solomon made at the Temple of the LORD…Praise the LORD your God, who delights in you…”

2 Chronicles 9:3-4, 8 NLT

The queen of Sheba traveled 1,500 miles to see for herself the riches of Solomon’s kingdom, and all her effort was not a disappointment. In fact, she was overwhelmed by Solomon’s wisdom and the beautiful palace he had built. And she was amazed at his riches, his organization of life, and his offerings at the Temple.

Solomon may have taken his riches for granted. Perhaps he didn’t realize how attractive they were to other kingdoms of the world. However, the queen’s attraction to the splendor of Solomon’s riches makes me wonder if the royal riches of my life might also attract those of a different kingdom.

Does God-given wisdom or God-given stability in my life overwhelm those around me? Are people amazed by my peace in the midst of storms, order in chaos, or overwhelming joy in serving? I may take my royal riches for granted, but for those who have never tasted the blessings of my Father’s kingdom, those riches are attractive.

The queen’s attraction to Solomon’s riches brought her to a truth she’d never known—true riches come from relationship with a God who delights in you! But most important, the queen’s attraction to riches brought her to the GOD she’d never met.

May God’s riches in me attract others to the most precious gift—

Relationship with the GOD they’ve never met!
