“Then Elisha died and was buried. Groups of Moabite raiders used to invade the land each spring. Once when some Israelites were burying a man, they spied a band of these raiders. So they hastily threw the corpse into the tomb of Elisha and fled. But as soon as the body touched Elisha’s bones, the dead man revived and jumped to his feet.”
2 Kings 13:20-21 NLT
Elisha was present when Elijah was taken to heaven in that famous whirlwind, so I wonder if he felt disappointed that he didn’t hear a whirlwind or see a fiery chariot coming for him. In fact, the Bible’s description of Elisha’s death was hardly notorious, he “died and was buried.”
But wait, that’s not the end of Elisha’s story! Sometime later, when a dead man’s body touched Elisha’s bones, it instantly came to life! On November 12, 2019 I wrote in my journal, “Wow! Even the bones of a holy dead man can still bring life to a corpse!”
The power of Elisha’s life lived on, even after his death. I wonder, will that be the story when I’m gone? How will the next generation be affected by the remains of my life? I pray that the memories, experiences, and words I leave behind will be so full of God’s power that when those who are dead to relationship with God encounter my bones, they will come to Life!
Interestingly, the same day I had journaled about Elisha’s bones, I just happened to have my regular bone density scan! However, I realized that more importantly, I need a regular “heart density” scan. Only if I continually allow God’s Word to x-ray my heart will I experience the dense power of HIS Life in me.
And may that Power give Life to others, long after I’m gone!
