“O LORD, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?”
Psalms 13:1-2
From childhood I lived by an impossible script: “You must be perfect…you must please everyone…don’t disappoint anyone…work hard, and never ask for help.” No wonder I was exhausted! No wonder after sixty years, my prayers sounded like David’s, “O LORD, how long?”
God NEVER intended that I live under such heavy burdens. In fact, the script HE wrote for my life was full of freedom and joy. However, over the years the enemy kept scratching lines of Truth from GOD’s script and replacing them with his lies. I followed his gotta please everybody script so well, it became second nature to me—like an actor who lives and breathes the script of their character!
I didn’t know I was following lies—not until the Shepherd took me aside and lovingly pointed out the Truth in HIS original plan. When I realized not one line of the enemy’s script could be found in God’s Word, I knew it was time to change. I needed to follow my Creator’s script!
When David struggled with “how long” questions, he finally concluded: “But I trust in your unfailing love.” (v5) I decided as well to TRUST the script of love—My Father’s unfailing love.
The script of lies will drive you with fear—the script of truth will draw you with love.
Make sure to choose the right script for your life!
