“The required number of Levites served in the LORD’s presence at all times, following all the procedures they had been given. And so, under the supervision of the priests, the Levites watched over the Tabernacle and the Temple and faithfully carried out their duties of service at the house of the LORD.”
1 Chronicles 23:31-32
I love the heart of God that is revealed in the long lists of priests and Levites and their duties. These men were not simply filling an empty spot. Quite opposite, each one was important, unique, and called by name. Assignments for service were purposely chosen by lot so there would be no preference shown. Evidently, God saw all Levites on the same level, no matter their age, rank, or status. Because GOD chose, there was neither room for pride nor disappointment.
If I ever feel like a nobody, perhaps I can be encouraged by this list of priests and Levites! My loving God created me uniquely and designed a certain role for me that nobody else can fill! I am not a substitute—God chose ME, God called ME by name, and strategically placed ME in His beautiful tapestry. In my Father’s eyes, age, education, rank, or status will never define me—only HIS blood flowing through my veins!
David had said the Temple was to be magnificent because it housed Almighty God. And if the priests and Levites accepted the plans David gave for their service in the Temple, then the worship INSIDE the Temple would be as beautiful as the stonework on the OUTSIDE.
When God’s kids joyfully serve in the role HE gives,
then God’s Temple is truly magnificent, both inside AND out!
