“This is what the LORD says: Do not be disturbed by this blasphemous speech against me…I myself will move against him…This is what the LORD says: I have heard your prayer about King Sennacherib of Assyria. And the LORD has spoken this word against him…His armies will not enter Jerusalem. They will not even shoot an arrow at it.”
2 Kings 19:6-7, 21, 32 NLT
Fortunately, King Hezekiah knew where to take the enemy threats—to the Temple. There he prayed to the LORD those threats defied. (vs 4, 16)
King Sennacherib had boasted proudly about his strength, but the LORD of Heaven’s Armies heard Hezekiah’s prayer and spoke against those evil threats: “You have said, ‘With MY chariots I have conquered…’ But have you not heard? I decided this long ago…I know you well, where you stay, and when you come and go…I know the way you rage against me…I will put my hook in your nose…I will make you return by the same road on which you came.” (vs 22-28)
That night the angel of the LORD went into the Assyrian camp surrounding Jerusalem and killed 185,000 soldiers; and when King Sennacherib returned home to Nineveh, he was murdered by his own sons. Hezekiah and the people of Judah did not lift even one sword against the enemy who threatened—the LORD fought for them in the middle of the night!
Likewise, when your enemy threatens, the LORD wants to show you the true picture. HE knows the threats are against Him, HE knows where your enemy stays, and HE knows how to destroy him in the middle of your darkest night!
Are you ready for a midnight surprise?
Then take those threats to your LORD!
