It was December 31st when I sat in dust and ashes. It was January 1st when I read about delighting in the law of the Lord. Now I know that was not simply the end and beginning of two calendar years. Instead, that experience marked the end of a long, exhausting race fueled by lies about what I must DO to earn love and acceptance. And it marked the beginning of discovering GOD’s truth about who He empowers me to BE and taking new steps to walk in that freedom.
I was aware the new path would not be easy—I had decades of habits to change! But at 4:00 am the following day, I read the end of Psalm 1: “The Lord watches over the path of the godly.” YES! God was watching over MY path! HE knew where it would lead, and HE knew how to direct each step!
I remembered that promise every time I felt like a baby learning to walk, every time I fell flat on my face, every time I wanted to give up. When the new path seemed too difficult, I simply kept delighting in God’s Word, and HE made me like the tree along the riverbank!
To this day, my Shepherd has watched over my path!
