“No Need to Brag”
“When all Israel heard the King’s decision, the people were in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom God had given him for rendering justice.”
1 Kings 3:28
When Solomon asked God for wisdom, God gave wisdom—simple! Solomon did nothing to earn that wisdom, it was a gift. In fact, the gift was given in such abundance that scripture tells us there was never a man before or since who had such wisdom.
As God’s gift began to flow through Solomon, all of Israel was in awe of King Solomon. They SAW for themselves the wisdom God had given. Solomon did not need to run around saying, “Wow, did you hear what I did?” If GOD gives a gift, why brag on YOURSELF! What GOD does through us is so far beyond what we could do ourselves.
The gift of wisdom God gave Solomon is still seen and heard today through the 3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs he wrote. And the Temple Solomon built displayed such beauty that its glory has never been equaled to this day. No human being needs to embellish the wisdom GOD gave Solomon—it clearly stands out for all to see.
Likewise, when GOD gives me a gift, there is no need for me to flaunt it. GOD’s gifts are so beyond human abilities that they are easily seen! Besides, why brag about the glories of “my” gift? Glory belongs to the Giver!
