“The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”
Psalms 23:1 NLT
Truck drivers take the most traveled, proven routes to save time. On the contrary, tourists get off the beaten path to experience real-life. On life’s journey, God is not as concerned about how fast we travel as how much we learn!
That’s why the Shepherd steered me off the beaten path for a season—He had many lessons to teach me. What if I had balked at that unsolicited detour? What if I had continued speeding down my own route? I would have missed the treasures of truth I needed for my journey ahead.
I must admit, the Shepherd’s unseen path was not always smooth or flat. I often encountered sharp rocks and hills too steep to climb alone. Sometimes storms blew in so much debris, only the Shepherd could find the way through. But I was never alone, even off the beaten path.
It may be exciting to travel with friends on busy highways or explore some tourist traps together. But if the Shepherd leads you down a hidden path, don’t be afraid. The sparkle of gems you’ll see along HIS path is far more refreshing than the blur you'd see along the speeding highway. Besides, I can testify from my personal journey—
When the LORD is your Shepherd, you have ALL that you need—even off the beaten path!
