“The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did
as he served in the home of his Egyptian master…
But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison…
and caused everything he did to succeed.”
Genesis 39:2, 21, 23
Joseph’s life was full of adversity…sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused, thrown into prison, and then forgotten. But, through all the dungeons of his life, Joseph faithfully served the people around him.
It was Joseph’s trust in God that kept him serving, and God blessed that serving with the gift of His presence. Potiphar realized the Lord was with Joseph and put him in charge of his household. Later, the Lord was with Joseph even as he served his fellow-prisoners. The Lord caused everything Joseph did to succeed…all because he served, no matter his circumstance!
Joseph not only served, but he also gave up his life back home with family, to ultimately save his family. As Joseph later explained to his brothers, the adversity they intended for evil, GOD intended for good, so Joseph could save the lives of many.
What a picture of our Jesus…He left His perfect Home to live in the dungeons of our world, for two reasons: to serve and give His life to save His family. I am grateful to have been born-again into that family, and now this is my prayer, “Lord, no matter what dungeon I may be in, please help me to keep serving others and giving my life, so Your family will continue to grow!”
