"Why are you so angry?” the LORD asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you respond in the right way. But if you refuse to respond correctly, then watch out! Sin is waiting to attack and destroy you, and you must subdue it.”
Genesis 4:6-7
You can’t hide anger. The longer you hold on to it, cherishing those get-even feelings, the furrows plow deeper and deeper into your face!
Cain’s anger issue showed, and God addressed it with loving advice: respond in the right way. If Cain refused to respond correctly, sin could destroy him! God gave the same warning in Ephesians 4:26-27, admonishing us to deal with anger the same day. Allowing anger to fester inside of us “…gives a mighty foothold to the Devil.”
God clearly states who is responsible in every situation: YOU respond, YOU let go of anger, YOU forgive, YOU do it the same day. Holding on to anger is like giving an invitation to the Devil. If he gets his ugly foot in your heart’s door, it will only take one push and that door swings wide open to him! No wonder our loving Father warned us about anger!
Cain was angry over an offering. Interestingly, Psalm 4 ties the two together: “Don’t sin by letting anger gain control over you—Offer proper sacrifices, and trust in the Lord.”
So, when anger comes knocking, choose the proper sacrifice—
Trust YOURSELF to God, and His peace will show!
Trust your anger and your pain will show!
