Introduction to the Book of 1st Chronicles - From Ancestors to Descendants
First Chronicles begins with genealogies that trace the roots of King David’s family as well as the Levites. For the people of Judah who had been exiled in Babylon for seventy years, remembering their ancestors helped them remember their heritage. Every name on the list had a story about GOD’s faithfulness. So, remembering their past gave them new hope for their future.
Reviewing the events of King David’s life also renewed hope, especially his passion for God’s Presence. The extensive preparations David made for building the Temple ensured there would be a place for God to dwell among their descendants for generations.
May we too make preparations for God’s Presence to dwell in the lives of our descendants.
