“Accountable Forever”

“The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them,

but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us,

so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.”

Deuteronomy 29:29

After reminding the Israelites of all they had seen with their own eyes the last forty years (v. 2), Moses concluded they were accountable forever for all that God had revealed to them! We often think revelations come through fiery words or lofty visions, but the most precious revelations come from glimpses of God we see day by day on our life journeys.

I found this entry in one of my journals after reading Deuteronomy 29: “Through all my life, God has cared for me! In childhood He gave me a heart to trust Him. In youth, He gave me a pastor who encouraged my thirst for God. In college, He introduced me to my heart-partner. In Uganda, He was my shield. In Kisumu, He was my light in darkness. In Nairobi, He poured out abundant fruit. In India, He revealed life-changing truth. In Brussels, He cocooned me. In California, He healed personal agony…After all this care through the wildernesses of my life, God urges me to trust and obey Him!”

I am not accountable for what YOU have experienced on your journey, but I am accountable forever for what I have seen with my own eyes…and so are you. We are accountable to process our wilderness journeys with clean hearts and share our lessons with others…so we will all trust and obey even more!
