“This is a day to remember forever—the day you left Egypt, the place of your slavery.
Today the Lord has brought you out by the power of his mighty hand…”
Exodus 13:3
God made it clear to the Israelites that there was one day of their lives SO important that it was to be remembered forever. In fact, that day was of such value, they were commanded to faithfully celebrate it every year of their lives…the day God delivered them from bondage!
On God’s list of priorities for His children, apparently freedom ranks at the top. God always knew exactly how and when He was going to deliver His people, but to watch them toil day after day under such cruel slavery, must have broken His heart. Consequently, every detail of their orchestrated deliverance was a big deal to God, so big that the day must be remembered forever!
This verse makes me wonder…what about the day God set me free from my bondage? Wasn’t that also a big deal to the One who rescued me from that painful slavery? But, do I appreciate His deliverance enough to remember? Or do I allow the negative scenes from that bondage to flood my mind instead? God never asked the children of Israel to remember their days of the whips and bricks…He asked them to remember the day of their deliverance!
Perhaps it is time for me to remember mine as well, and celebrate…because freedom IS a big deal!
