“Do Your Children Know?”

“On the seventh day you must explain to your children,

‘I am celebrating what the Lord did for me when I left Egypt’…

In the future, your children will ask you, ‘What does this all mean?’ Then you will tell them…”

Exodus 13:8, 14

Yesterday we talked about remembering and celebrating the day God delivered us. But what if our children ask us, "Why are you celebrating?"

The children in the Israelite family were a vital link to the future of God’s plan. However, God knew those little ones would not be old enough at the time of their deliverance to comprehend what God did. That’s why He gave the parents a simple but very strategic assignment…tell your children!

There is no question who God made responsible to tell the children; notice the number of times the word you appears in these verses. The parents were the ones who experienced the miraculous deliverance. THEY were the ones to regularly remember and celebrate that deliverance, and THEY were the ones to explain it to their children. And what did God want each parent to explain… “What the Lord did for ME when I left Egypt.”

Sometimes we feel unequipped to pass God’s Truth on to our kids. We worry that we don’t understand the Scriptures properly, or that we don’t have all the answers. But God knows what is most important for our children to hear. That’s why He said to tell them what the Lord did for YOU! So simple…yet so powerful! Do YOUR children know?
