“And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.”
Genesis 6:21
The same God who lovingly sewed clothes for Adam and Eve, now gives compassionate instructions to Noah before the flood, “And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.”
Most likely Noah had no idea how long he and those thousands of animals would be on that boat, but God did. His kind words sound like a parent’s final instructions before their child boards a school bus or their teenager backs out of the driveway. God knew what lay ahead on Noah’s journey, and He cared.
God always cares. He provided manna in the desert for the Israelites, He sent ravens to feed Elijah during famine, and then authorized an angel to prepare him for what was ahead…”Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.”
The God who knew the journeys of the patriarchs, certainly knows ours. For that very reason, Jesus admonished His disciples, “Do not leave…until the Father sends you the gift he promised…” Likewise, Our Father does not want us to leave on our journeys without food from His Word. Can you hear His loving voice as He sends you off into the world today, “Wait! Don’t leave without your lunch!”
