“I will make you seem like God to Pharaoh…But I will make Pharaoh’s heart stubborn
so I can multiply my miraculous signs and wonders…I will bring down my fist on Egypt…
I will rescue my people…with great acts of judgment…When I raise my powerful hand…
the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.”
Exodus 7:1-5
After 400 years of cruel slavery in Egypt, the Israelites must have thought that God had forgotten them. But quite the opposite was true…their loving Father had always been watching, and He finally said “Enough!” NO ONE was going to mess with HIS chosen people without regretting it!
The Exodus story is one of unbelievable power. God Himself hardened Pharaoh’s heart so that HE could perform signs and wonders, resulting in a mighty deliverance of HIS people. The astounding power displayed through the plagues is repeatedly described as God raising His fist, or His powerful, strong, mighty hand, or even just lifting His finger! The incredible acts GOD’s hand performed left the land of Egypt in absolute ruin…all crops completely destroyed, all livestock dead, all grass and trees stripped bare, all households in mourning, and all the army, chariots, and horses wiped out in one blow…simply because the Egyptians dared to mistreat GOD’s people!
Do we sometimes forget the mighty power of this God who calls us HIS children? It may seem that years keep passing by with no end to our painful dilemma. But remember, Our Father does see all, and there ain’t NOBODY who can mess with HIS kids and get away with it!
