“Faith Downstream”

“It was the harvest season, and the Jordan was overflowing it banks. But as soon as

the feet of the priests who were carrying the ark touched the water at the river’s edge,

the water above that point began backing up a great distance away at a town called Adam…And the water below that point flowed on to the Dead Sea until the riverbed was dry…”

Joshua 3:15-16

What an amazing miracle! The Jordan River was overflowing its banks with flood stage waters. Yet suddenly, those rushing waters stood still like an embankment and piled up in a heap far upstream.

This miracle upstream could never have happened unless someone had faith downstream. However, stepping into a rushing river while balancing the Ark of the Covenant, would have been extremely dangerous. Besides, at the Red Sea, God had dried up the water BEFORE they took their first step! How could they step out now without seeing even one sign of a miracle?

Joshua believed God first and told the Israelites the river WOULD stand up like a wall! Then the priests believed and stepped into the flooded river. Their feet did not make the miracle happen, their GOD did. They simply stepped out in faith, and the miracle that started upstream, made their path dry downstream.

Often the answers to our prayers begin outside of our range of sight. The priests could not see the town of Adam, but at the moment they stepped by faith into those risky waters, their miracle began, far from where their human eye could see.

Do I have faith to step into risky waters downstream, even though my sight is limited? If so, God will surprise me with miracles...from upstream!
