“After banishing them from the garden, the Lord God stationed mighty angelic beings to the east of Eden. And a flaming sword flashed back and forth, guarding the way to the tree of life.”
I wonder if Adam and Eve ever attempted to go back to the garden, only to find its entrance blocked. If so, most likely they would have felt the same way we do when our way has obstructions! How many times have we been upset because the door to some glowing opportunity was slammed in our face? “What’s wrong?” we shout. “This does not make sense!”
However, let’s eavesdrop on God’s thoughts in Genesis 3:22 and hear the reason for the guards and flashing swords. “What if they eat the fruit of the tree of life? Then they will live forever!” Their loving Creator was protecting them from danger. Can you imagine the incredible chaos if all beings from the beginning of time were still alive on this planet? God was protecting man from himself.
Our Father is in the same protection business today. He lovingly blocks foolish decisions that could affect our lives forever. He wisely detours us off paths WE think would be wonderful. The One who created us knows the outcome of every “what if” we face. So, when we see flashing lights up ahead, we better use caution. We can trust that the One who loves us always knows best!
