“Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you.”
Exodus 25:8-9
Since the Garden of Eden, God has been pursuing man. He walked with Adam, had close fellowship with Enoch, and close relationship with Noah. God called Abraham to birth His special family and when they became enslaved, God called Moses to deliver them.
From the Garden to the desert, throughout the generations, God had pursued man because He wanted to be close to HIS creation. Now, with all their tents pitched together as one community, God’s presence was there…but He was the only one who had no tent in which to live!
God asked His people to build for Him a holy sanctuary so He could settle down and abide with them. God was not only pursuing man, now He wanted to dwell with them, live as a resident among them. The tabernacle in the wilderness marked a distinct change in God’s relationship with people, one that would last forever.
Jesus extended God’s desire when He knocked at the door of my heart...He wanted to abide in me. GOD dwelling IN me…what an awesome privilege! And, just as God showed Moses the pattern for building the tabernacle for His Presence, so God’s Word shows me the pattern to prepare my heart for His Presence.
Father help me follow every line of Your Pattern,
so that my heart can always be YOUR dwelling place!
