my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth…”

Exactly two months after the Israelites left Egypt, they arrived at the base of Mt. Sinai. There, for two whole years, God revealed Himself to His people and taught them His commandments. What a school that must have been, way out in the middle of a desert!
However, most amazing is how the Director of this university introduced the curriculum. The very first words He spoke to His students were not filled with pride or intimidating threats. Instead, with tenderness in His voice, God spoke first of His love…how He delivered them, how He gently carried them…and most special, how He brought them to Himself. Then He made this unbelievable offer: If the students would follow the teachings they learned in His school, they would graduate with honors…they would be GOD’s own special treasure!
The words God spoke that day at Mt. Sinai reveal what His heart values most…RELATIONSHIP! That is why the first invitation from His lips is always, “Come!” And, when we respond to that invitation and enroll in His school, whether the current classes take place in the desert or on the mountain top, the Director’s loving offer is still the same: When we obey His curriculum, we are blessed with an honor above all honors…we too are GOD’s own special treasure!
