“Shake and Take”

“You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother.

But when you decide to break free, you will shake his yoke from your neck.”

Genesis 27:40

Yesterday we discovered the sword Esau took up was infused with hatred that intended to destroy. It’s interesting then that Jesus said to his disciples in the Garden, “Put away your sword…those who use the sword will die by the sword.” (Mt. 26:52) Instead of using man’s sword to defend themselves, Jesus said He could ask His Father for protection. In other words, there is a stronger power than your sword…that is the Sword of the Spirit…HIS Word!

And likewise, the unforgiving yoke Esau took on became unbearable as it chained his revenge-filled mind to his enemy! Heavy yokes were never part of God’s plan. In fact, Jesus said, “MY yoke is easy, and MY burden is light!” (Mt. 11:30) Since the weight of sin was placed on Jesus’ shoulders at the cross, when we take His yoke on us, we walk HIS way…the free-way!

So which sword am I gonna carry? I can choose to cut others down with my sword of anger and bitterness or I can take the sword of the Spirit, speaking His Truth in love. And which yoke am I gonna wear? I can burden myself with the yoke of enemy lies, or I can choose instead to take His yoke of truth and freedom.

I think it’s time to for me to shake mine and take His!
