“Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him,
‘Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.’”
Genesis 15:1
In an instant world where anything can be delivered with one click, we seem to have lost the art of waiting! But there were no instants in the book of Genesis. We have no idea how much time had lapsed since God last spoke to Abram. Lot had taken advantage of his Uncle and moved to greener pastures, and later on Abram ended up rescuing Lot when he was robbed and captured. Even after all that time, Abram continued to wait for God to speak again. Finally, some time later, it happened!
There are times in our lives when we think God is silent, but He WILL speak again! It may be some time later, but the timing is His business. Our task is to keep on waiting and keep on listening. If we do that well, we may be surprised to actually hear some silent, wordless messages God is speaking all around us. What is God saying through His awesome creation and through the variety of people we encounter each day? And what about the food, shelter, and clothing God provides…they are all voices of His blessings! When we learn to hear God in the silent moments, perhaps we will be even more receptive to what He has to say when the some time later actually comes!
