“But if you fail to drive out the people who live in the land, those who remain will be like splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides They will harass you in the land where you live.”
Numbers 33:55
If you have ever had a splinter in your eye, then you know about pain! Something so small you can hardly see it, but it obstructs your vision and distracts your focus. And what about a thorn in your side? The slightest move brings a stab of discomfort. Both splinters and thorns are irritating, annoying, and naggingly painful.
God told the Israelites that the enemies they did not drive from the Promised Land, would be like those splinters and thorns. That makes me wonder if I sometimes allow enemies from my past to become splinters and thorns in my new land of freedom?
Fear used to scream that my performance had to be perfect for me to be loved. Pride used to exhaust me with, “I can do this myself.” But, if I continue to allow those lies to dominate my life, even after Jesus has set me free, then I should not be surprised by the nagging pain of splinters and thorns!
Earlier God had promised HE would hand the enemy over to the Israelites, but THEY would drive the enemy out! God never breaks His promise, not then, not now. But what about me…will I drive the enemy out?
“Satan, leave me alone…JESUS set me free!
I will NOT believe your lies…No more splinters…no more thorns!”
