“Stubbornness with a Purpose”

“The Lord said to Moses, ‘…I have made Pharaoh and his officials stubborn so I can display my miraculous signs among them. I’ve also done it so you can tell your children

and grandchildren about the signs I displayed among them--

and so you will know that I am the Lord.’”

Exodus 10:1-2

Every time I read the book of Exodus, I get so upset at Pharaoh’s stubbornness. Why did he bring so much unnecessary suffering on his people? Then I read that GOD made Pharaoh stubborn so HE could display miraculous signs among them. God wanted the Egyptians to SEE with their own eyes Who God is, and certainly the plagues gave them a front row seat to witness His wonders first-hand!

However, what impresses me even more is the second reason God gave for Pharaoh’s stubbornness…so you can tell your children and grandchildren everything God did. God wants to be known, not just by some of us, but by all. He wants us to pass on what WE have experienced of God, so each generation will know more of Him than the last.

Finally, God underscores His reasons with this clincher…so you will KNOW that I am the Lord. I have a feeling this is His underlying motivation for every event that displays His character…that we will know without a shadow of doubt that HE ALONE is GOD…there is NO OTHER!

So, let’s pass THAT truth on to the next generation!
