“Taking the Baton”

“No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will

be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.”

Joshua 1:5

The same “it’s your turn” message the Israelites received from Moses was given to Joshua, “…the time has come for YOU to lead these people…” (v. 2) However, God added words that would cover whatever Joshua or the people faced when they took their turns: “I promise you…”

God promisedI will be with you…I will not fail you or abandon you. The instructions God gave for the tasks He assigned were all wrapped in the promise of HIS presence,

“…the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (v. 9)

When it comes to family, no person is exempt from taking their turn at assigned tasks. The tasks are vastly different, some designed for beginners, some for the more experienced. But no matter the task, ALL take the baton when Father says, “It’s your turn!”

In a relay race, the runner passing the baton is responsible for the timing of the hand-off. Since Our Father is the One who hands out the batons in His family, we can be sure that He knows the exact moment to say, “It’s your turn!” Whether God passes tasks to a leader like Joshua or followers like the Israelites, He knows His children well. So, we can take whatever baton HE hands us with confidence because they all come with HIS same promise…I will be with you!
