“Tenant Farmers”

“The land must never be sold on a permanent basis, for the land belongs to me.

You are only foreigners and tenant farmers working for me…

For the people of Israel belong to me. They are my servants, whom I

brought out of the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

Leviticus 25:23, 55

Most of us spend a lifetime trying to stockpile enough funds for a comfortable life, and also leave something for our kids. We label these assets our properties. However, the ownership picture God painted in Leviticus revealed EVERYTHING belonged to HIM and the Israelites were His tenant farmers.

The difference of view lies in our choice of words…ownership or management. We tend to think we own everything in our lives. But throughout scripture we’re told the earth is the Lord’s, silver and gold belong to Him, and every good and perfect gift comes from our Father. Therefore, it makes sense for God to call us tenant farmers, ones who live on HIS property and care of what belongs to HIM!

Remembering my management role is important, but perhaps even more significant is considering Who owns what I manage! And how does that Owner look at His properties? Since He created ALL the wealth and ALL the people of the earth, EVERYTHING has great value to Him. Whatever the Creator designed is dear to His heart!

Today as I weigh the assets God put in my life…time, talents, money, and people, may I remember that I am a tenant farmer who works on behalf of the real Owner.

So, how does God want me to manage HIS farm?
