“So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: the Lord is God both in heaven and earth,
and there is no other.”
After urging the Israelites to never worship idols, Moses warned them that IF in the future they ever disobeyed that command, God would scatter them among nations where few would survive. However, IF they sought the Lord again with a whole heart, they would find Him. For their God was a merciful God who would not forget His covenant of relationship.
The narrative that follows poured like oil from the heart of a man who KNEW this God and wanted his people to know Him too. “Has any nation ever heard the voice of God speaking from the fire…Has any other god dared to take a nation for Himself…? He showed you these things so you would KNOW that the Lord is God and there is no other.” (v. 33,35) It seemed overwhelming to Moses that God would let them hear His voice and let them see His fire…all because of His love. That loving God personally rescued them from Egypt and He would also drive more powerful nations out of Canaan so He could give that land to them! THIS was the God the Israelites were to remember…there was NO other like Him!
And that God lets me hear His voice too! And He calls me HIS special treasure!
So, I worship HIM today…because there is no other!
