“Called by Name”

Updated: Apr 19, 2021

"When their names were recorded, as the Lord had commanded through Moses,

each man was assigned his task and told what to carry.”

Numbers 4:49

Names are important to God. Recording names of warriors is mentioned three times in Numbers one. Later when Levites were appointed for service, all their names were recorded. In fact, three times God said to record their names and assign various tasks to each man by name.

Throughout these chapters God used words like one by one, every, and all. No person was left out…ALL included everyone! There were 8,580 names of Levites recorded, and all were given a task. Yet, no one person or task was better or more important than the other. EVERY person was special, and EVERY task was sacred.

Finally, let’s notice the order of events in verse 49. The name recording came first, BEFORE the task assigning. It seems that the person is more important to God than the task they perform. Even Jesus called the disciples to be with Him first before He ever sent them out to preach. Do you realize how important YOU are to God? Can you comprehend the value YOU have in the heart of your Creator? You could never earn such value, no matter how many tasks you complete. Your Father loves YOU as if you were His ONE and ONLY. Listen closely today…

He calls you by name!
