Want a course on relationships? Study the Sermon on the Mount! Jesus taught about attitudes— the heart of relationships. He taught about anger, revenge, judging, and loving enemies—relationships with each other. He taught about giving, praying, and fasting—relationship with God, not religion by rules but relationship by love.
However, let’s not miss the incredible promise Jesus gave at the end of this class—Anyone who follows HIS teaching will not collapse! I can personally testify that to be true. As a young wife, as an overwhelmed mother, and as a rookie missionary in Africa, I quickly realized I needed help. All I knew was to follow HIS teaching—and I was truly blessed! (Mt. 5:3)
In every culture I've lived, Jesus’ teaching about attitude became the key to all my relationships. I couldn’t be a know it all/better than thou person when I was the “ignorant” foreigner! I couldn’t withhold mercy when I’d already received mercy. Yet, everywhere I turned, I personally witnessed GOD’s miracles, simply because Jesus promised the pure in heart will SEE God! (5:8)
I am living proof that Jesus keeps His promises! Since childhood, I have chosen to listen and follow HIS teaching. I couldn’t begin to count all the torrents, floodwaters, and windstorms I’ve experienced over the years…
Yet—I did NOT collapse!
