“But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man
after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the
leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.”
1 Samuel 13:14
Samuel spoke these words to Saul before anyone knew Saul would lose the throne--before anyone knew who David was--and before Samuel anointed David as the next king. Before man could figure it all out, the LORD had already appointed a man after His own heart!
Man may not know much about you either, but you too are already appointed. Psalm 139 clearly describes the Creator’s loving care as He knit you together in your mother’s womb, planning special surprises for every day of your life. However, the fulfillment of those plans depends on you. GOD may be responsible for the workings of your physical heart, but YOU alone determine the direction of the heart that connects you to Him.
How did God know David’s heart was directed toward Him? Because God saw his welcome mat! God sought out (looked for) a man whose heart had an open door to His Presence, a heart that wanted Him to stay. And God still seeks out that kind of person. When God sees your welcoming heart, THERE He will dwell and THERE He will pour out His abundant blessings. His gifts of freedom, joy, peace, and love are only the beginning of the life HE already appointed, just for YOU!
