“At mealtime Boaz called to her, ‘Come over here and help yourself to some food.
You can dip your bread in the sour wine.’ So she sat with his harvesters,
and Boaz gave her some roasted grain to eat. She ate all she wanted…”
Ruth 2:14
This delightful relationship began when Boaz first noticed Ruth working in his field. As soon as he found out who she was, Boaz went over to Ruth and addressed her as my daughter. He told her, “Stay right here with us…” so she would be protected, and “Help yourself to the water” the other harvesters had already drawn from his well.
However, it was Boaz’s next words that opened the door to relationship, “Come over here and help yourself…” Over here not only meant eating together with the other harvesters, but more importantly, it meant being near Boaz. HE gave Ruth special food, and SHE ate all she wanted.
Boaz’s love and care sound like our Master’s…He always makes the first move toward us, He addresses us as his sons and daughters, and He admonishes us to stay with the family for our own protection. Jesus not only provides loving care through His other kids, but He offers special food from HIS own hand as well.
The other harvesters provided food and water, but Ruth had to help herself. Boaz gave Ruth special food, but SHE had to eat it. Notice that Ruth ate all she wanted!
Your Master offers everything you need to fill the hunger in your life…
but you too must help yourself!
