“Leftovers to Share”

“…So she sat with his harvesters, and Boaz gave her some roasted grain to eat.

She ate all she wanted and still had some left over

Ruth also gave Naomi the roasted grain that was left over from her meal.”

Ruth 2:14, 18

Have you ever noticed that the people who sit at the head table always get the best food, and the largest amounts? The day Ruth walked into Boaz’s field to gather grain, she had no idea that by lunch time she would be sitting at the master’s head table.

Of course, Ruth would never consider herself worthy enough to sit near the master, but HE called her! When Ruth responded, she not only ate food the other harvesters were eating, but Boaz gave her some of his own roasted grain.

Neither am I worthy to sit near my Master. Yet HE calls me to come and dine at His table. There I enjoy eating alongside His other kids. But the greatest privilege is being close to the Master. By His side, I receive special food straight from His hand. I can eat as much as I want, and still there is always food left over.

Twice in this story, Boaz sent Ruth home with leftovers to share with her mother-in-law. The second time he told her, “Don’t go back…empty handed.” (3:17) And neither should I! Every time I sit with My Master, He blesses me with abundance from His Word. I should never go back to my world empty-handed…HIS leftovers are to be shared!
