“No Armor Swapping!”

“Then Saul gave David his own armor…David put it on…to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. ‘I can’t go in these,’ he protested. ‘I’m not used to them.’

...Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling he started across the valley to fight the Philistine.”

1 Samuel 17:38-40

My girlfriends in college loved to swap clothes, but that was not comfortable for me! David tried on Saul’s armor, and drew the same conclusion…he was not used to it!

Saul was used to heavy armor because he was a warrior, and GOD had helped him fight many battles with that armor. On the other hand, David was used to one small sling because he was a shepherd, and GOD had helped him fight wild animals with that sling. The problem came when Saul assumed David’s meager shepherd sling was not as strong as all his gear.

Saul didn’t realize that within that small sling lay the power of Almighty God. HE had trained David to use the armor HE had given. And that same God clothes each one of us with armor unique to our own experiences. And no matter the design, the power comes from HIS salvation, HIS righteousness, HIS Word, and HIS peace--everything we need to win our battles.

So next time you assume your armor doesn't look as strong or shiny as your fellow soldier's, remember David didn’t need Saul’s gear; when it came time to cut off the giant's head, David simply used Goliath's own sword! Besides, if David had worn Saul’s armor, who knows if Goliath would have ever fallen!

God will ALWAYS provide the armor YOU need for YOUR battles!
